Breaking Chains: Welcome to Hiking on Holy Ground

At the start of Exodus 3, Moses has led his flock to the wilderness and God appears to him in a burning bush. Hang out on that picture for a moment… Moses, a shepherd in the wilderness, meets God, the Creator of the Universe, and He is speaking to him from a burning bush. Imagining what that must have been like for Moses takes my breath away.
But I love how God uses simple, ordinary things, like a bush in the wilderness, to speak to ordinary people. God called it holy ground and that day changed Moses' life forever. Ordinary ground becomes holy ground when God shows up
Now I’m clearly not Moses, and God is not telling me to lead a nation of people out of slavery. But He has put it on my heart to share my stories.
Sometimes we’re prisoners, or slaves, to things we don’t even realize. God has been showing me many of those places in the last few years. And oddly, He keeps showing up in the ‘wilderness’. My husband and I love to hike, but a recent trip took that to a whole new level.
These hikes have challenged me in so many ways and through the challenges, God has been showing me things in my life that hold me back, that hold me captive. And it’s not just hikes where He meets me, sometimes it’s in a chair, on our porch, ‘hiking’ through my Bible. God hasn’t spoken to me from any burning bushes, but the lessons these past couple of years have changed my heart forever. He has set me free from so many things that held me captive. I pray that something in my stories will strike a chord in your heart and maybe unravel a chain that has gripped your heart for way too long.
