Right Beneath My Feet

I have to admit, at the beginning of spring, I was a little disappointed that we had decided not to plan any big trips for the rest of the year. After spending countless hours creating our garden, a staycation seemed exactly like what we needed after such a busy year last year.
But nature is where I so easily see and experience God. His creation breathes life into my soul, and I found myself wondering, With no beautiful hikes or wildlife, no breathtaking mountains or canyons, no peaceful mountain lakes, where would I find my fill of wonder?
Early this year, I decided to start posting more regularly on my Sharla and Her Camera Instagram page. Before long, the algorithm began introducing me to the work of some fascinating photographers including landscape photographers, wildlife photographers, and macro photographers who capture the tiniest details of creation. One photographer, in particular, stopped me in my tracks. He made close-up photographs of flowers look like works of art, and I immediately purchased one of his courses.
I've spent the last couple of weeks wandering through our garden with my camera at all different times of the day, even between thunderstorms! has been breathtaking. I have discovered that the work of the God of Wonder is everywhere... literally right beneath my feet.
I've begun learning to see in a whole new way. Sometimes that means tilting a flower pot to find the perfect angle on a tiny bud, only to discover I'm suddenly surrounded by hundreds of creepy little critters. (I am definitely NOT a bug person!) Each morning, I find myself walking through the flowers with my camera, watching each tiny bud become exactly what God created it to be, its own little masterpiece, just like you and me.
I think my greatest lesson this year may be this:
My heart can be filled by the wonders of God wherever I am.
In the rain.
Among the critters.
In the smallest, often unnoticed, details.
I simply have to slow down and watch expectantly.
I believe God delights in our delight. I believe He loves revealing the wonders of His creation because, in every tiny masterpiece, He is allowing us to see something of His own heart through His artistry.
I'd love hear how you've been filled with wonder this summer!
Discovering the wonder of Holy Ground right beneath my feet,
Sharla
